§ 117.01. DEFINITIONS.

  • For the purpose of this chapter the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
    CERTIFICATE OF CONVENIENCE AND NECESSITY. A finding made by the Board of Public Works and Safety that a taxicab company service is in the best interest of the public needs of the city, which results in the issuance of a license to the applicant for the operation of the taxicab service, by the City Clerk-Treasurer.
    TAXICAB. A vehicle driven by mechanical power, designed to carry not more than seven passengers, for public hire within the city.
    TAXICAB COMPANY. A corporation partnership, joint venture, or individual engaged in the operation of a taxicab for a fee to passengers, under a license issued by the city.
    TAXIMETER. A mechanical and/or electrical device which records and indicates a charge of fare measured by the distance traveled, waiting time, if any and extra passengers, if any.
